The Master of Applied Health Services Research (MAHSR) program at the University of Prince Edward Island is designed for students aiming to build a career in health research or health services. This collaborative program involves partnerships with Memorial University of Newfoundland, the University of New Brunswick, and St. Mary’s University. The MAHSR program equips students with essential knowledge and skills to address complex health policy issues, contributing significantly to the future of health services in Atlantic Canada. Students can choose between two streams: the research (thesis) stream and the course-based, fully online professional stream.

Program structure

The Master of Applied Health Services Research program offers two distinct streams for students: the Thesis Stream (MAHSR-T) and the Professional Stream (MAHSR-P).

Thesis Stream (MAHSR-T):

  • Program length: 2 years
  • Completion of three required courses, two elective courses, and a thesis.
  • Attendance at one workshop and approximately 12 seminars is mandatory.
  • At least two semesters of full-time, in-person study at UPEI are required.

Professional Stream (MAHSR-P):

  • Program length: 1 year
  • Completion of four required courses, four elective courses, and a practicum or capstone project.
  • All courses are delivered fully online.
  • Participation in monthly seminars throughout the Fall and Winter semesters is required.

Both streams are designed to balance academic learning with real-world experience, ensuring students are well-prepared for their future careers.
