Academic Requirements

To apply for the Electrical Engineering Technician program at Sheridan, applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, with the following required courses:
- One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U)
- One Math, Grade 11 or 12 (C, M or U)
Alternatively, applicants may qualify through Mature student status.

- Certificate or Diploma program requirement: A minimum score of 70% in listening and speaking and 70% in reading and writing.
- Degree, Master’s and Graduate Certificate program requirement: A minimum score of 75% in listening and speaking and 75% in reading and writing.
Sheridan EPA test (English Proficiency Assessment)
- Certificate or Diploma program requirement: Listening Band – 4.0, Reading Combined Band – 4.0, Writing – CLB 7.
- Degree, Master’s and Graduate Certificate program requirement: Listening Band – 4.5, Reading Combined Band – 4.5, Writing – CLB 8.
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language)
- Certificate or Diploma program requirement: overall score 60 with no individual section below 50.
- Degree, Master’s and Graduate Certificate program requirement: overall score 70 with no individual section below 60.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
- Certificate or Diploma program requirement: overall score 6.0 with no individual band below 5.5.
- Degree, Master’s and Graduate Certificate program requirement: overall score 6.5 with no individual band below 6.0.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
- Before 2026: Certificate or Diploma program requirement: overall score 80 with no individual section below 20.
- As of 2026: Certificate or Diploma program requirement: overall score 4 with no section below 4.
