Program overview

The Library & Information Technician (Accelerated) program at Seneca is designed for individuals with prior education who wish to fast-track their learning in the library and information field. This 12-month program equips students with the skills necessary to perform essential library operations and work collaboratively with librarians. Students will learn to provide materials, information, and services to library clients while becoming proficient in acquiring, preparing, and organizing diverse library materials using industry-specific software. The program is structured to be completed in a condensed format, making it ideal for those eager to enter the workforce quickly.

Program structure

The Library & Information Technician (Accelerated) program is structured to be completed over a duration of 3 semesters (12 months). The program is delivered in a hybrid format, combining both online and in-person learning experiences. Here’s a brief overview of the program structure:

  • First Semester: May and June
  • Second Semester: July and August
  • Third Semester: Fall semester

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in an unpaid field placement, which is a crucial component of the program. This hands-on experience allows students to apply their skills in a real-world library or related work environment. A vulnerable sector check may be required for many libraries, and successful completion of the field placement is necessary for graduation.
