Academic Requirements

The admission requirements for the Electrical Engineering Technology diploma program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic are as follows:

Grade 12 with a minimum of 60% in Pre-Calculus 30*
Physics 30
English Language Requirement

*Previous Saskatchewan mathematics requirement also accepted: Minimum of 60% in Math B30 and C30.

For international students, it is important to note that many employers require both a valid Driver's License (Class 5 or equivalent) and a clean Driver's Abstract. It can take up to 12 months for international students to obtain a Driver's License in Canada; therefore, it is to the international applicant's advantage to arrive with a Driver's License (Class 5 or equivalent) from their home country, if possible.

Accepted applicants are required to provide evidence of a Criminal Record Check and/or drug and alcohol testing for some co-op opportunities. The Criminal Record Check is not required for the start of the program. Directions will be provided during the co-op placement process. The cost of the Criminal Record Check is the applicant's responsibility.

Applicants with an unresolved criminal record or matters currently before the courts may be unable to complete mandatory work terms, which could affect their eligibility to complete the program.

It is recommended that applicants have computer literacy, including Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

To apply for the Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, all applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. The following English language proficiency tests are accepted:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Academic Module: An overall band score of 7.0 with a minimum score of 7.0 in Speaking.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Internet-based (iBt): A minimum overall score of 90 with minimum sub-scores of 20 in Reading and Writing, 26 in Speaking, and 22 in Listening.
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): A minimum score of 70 with a minimum sub-score of 70 in all components.
Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST): A minimum score of 4.5 in each of Listening, Reading, and Writing, and a score of 5.0 or higher in Speaking.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Paper-based: A minimum overall score of 580 with a minimum sub-score of 50 in each of Listening and Speaking, and a minimum score of 5.0 in each of Writing and Reading.
