Program Overview

The Chemical Technology program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is a nationally accredited, two-year diploma program designed to equip students with a solid foundation in scientific principles and analytical practices. This program prepares graduates for a variety of roles in industries such as food manufacturing, mining, agriculture, cannabis, chemical manufacturing, and oil and gas. Program Structure

The Chemical Technology program spans a total of 71 weeks, divided into two years:

Academic Requirements

To apply for the Chemical Technology diploma program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, applicants must meet the following Academic Requirements:

Grade 12 Completion: A minimum of 60% in each of the following subjects is required:
- English Language Arts A30
- English Language Arts B30
- Chemistry 30
- Pre-Calculus 30*
Alternative Admission: Applicants who do not possess the academic qualifications may be admitted if they can demonstrate probable success through an alternative admission assessment. Some specific Academic Requirements may still need to be met.
Post-secondary Credits: Some programs allow applicants to meet the admission grade level requirement using 15 approved post-secondary credits.
Criminal Record Check: Accepted applicants may be required to provide evidence of a Criminal Record Check prior to entering the practicum component of the program. At the discretion of the practicum agency, you may be declined access to a clinical or work placement based on the contents of the Criminal Record Check. The cost of the Criminal Record Check is your responsibility.
Transcripts: Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

English is the language of instruction and examination at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. If your first or primary language is not English, and/or your country is not exempt, you will need to provide evidence of having the English language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing necessary to be successful in the Saskatchewan Polytechnic program to which you are applying.

Saskatchewan students graduating from Fransaskois and French Immersion high school programs are not required to meet further English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements.

For the Chemical Technology Diploma program, the following English language proficiency tests are accepted:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Academic Module: An overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each component.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Internet-based: An overall minimum score of 81 with a minimum score of 19 in each of reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): A minimum score of 60 with a minimum score of 50 in each component.
Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST): Minimum score of 4.5 in each of Listening and Reading, a minimum score of 4.0 in Speaking and Writing.
