Academic Requirements

The admission requirements for the Chemical Technology diploma program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic are as follows:

Grade 12 with a minimum of 60% in each of the following subjects:
- English Language Arts A30
- English Language Arts B30
- Chemistry 30
- Pre-Calculus 30*

*Previous Saskatchewan mathematics requirement also accepted: Minimum of 60% in a 30-level math.

Accepted applicants may be required to provide evidence of a Criminal Record Check prior to entering the practicum component of the program. At the discretion of the practicum agency, you may be declined access to a clinical or work placement based on the contents of the Criminal Record Check. The cost of the Criminal Record Check is your responsibility.

Alternative admission options are available for applicants who do not possess the academic qualifications for the program. Evidence of probable success can be established through an alternative admission assessment. Applicants are automatically considered for alternative admission, but some specific admission requirements may still need to be met.

It is also worth mentioning that some programs allow applicants to meet the admission grade level requirement using 15 approved post-secondary credits.

Language Requirements

To apply for the Chemical Technology Diploma program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, all applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. The following English language proficiency tests are accepted:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Academic Module: An overall band score of 7.0 with a minimum score of 7.0 in Speaking.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Internet-based (iBt): A minimum overall score of 90 with minimum sub-scores of 20 in Reading and Writing, 26 in Speaking, and 22 in Listening.
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): A minimum score of 70 with a minimum sub-score of 70 in all components.
Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST): A minimum score of 4.5 in each of Listening, Reading, and Writing, and a score of 5.0 or higher in Speaking.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Paper-based: A minimum overall score of 580 with a minimum sub-score of 50 in each of Listening and Speaking, and a minimum score of 5.0 in each of Writing and Reading.
