Program overview

Mechatronics Engineering at Ontario Tech University is a unique program that integrates mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. Students will learn to produce innovative devices, consumer products, high-tech automobile systems, and robots. This program is one of the few in Canada that offers a dedicated focus on mechatronics, combining hardware and software to create advanced systems. Graduates will be equipped with the essential knowledge and skills to thrive in high-tech industries, including robotics, automotive, consumer products, and aerospace.

Program structure

The Mechatronics Engineering program is designed to be completed in a four or five-year timeframe, depending on the chosen path. Students can opt for a full-time study load, with classes delivered in-person at Ontario Tech University in North Oshawa. The program offers various experiential learning opportunities, including:

  • Capstone projects that allow students to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.
  • Co-op placements that provide hands-on experience in the industry.
  • Internships that help students gain valuable insights into their future careers.

Students also have the option to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering and Management (Honours) degree, which combines technical engineering studies with business and management courses. The program starts in September and January, providing flexibility for students to begin their studies.
