1. Complete consecutive, full-time studies in English: This includes:

3 years of high school (or a combination of high school and post-secondary) in Canada or in a country on NAIT’s ELP exempt country list, including completion of Grade 12 English;
2 years of post-secondary education in Canada or an ELP exempt country;
Completion of the Cambridge O and/or A level examinations.

2. Complete specific English language courses: Achieve acceptable marks in one of the following English language courses:

All three ESL Level 6 courses at NAIT with a passing grade of 60% or higher in each course;
Canadian high school English 30-1 or 30-2 with grades of 65% or 70% respectively;
Advanced Placement (AP) English with a score of 4 or better;
Other recognized English language programs with specified minimum grades.

3. Take an ELP test: NAIT accepts various ELP assessment tests, including:

IELTS Academic: Minimum score of 6.0 in each section;
TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 70 overall (before Jan. 21, 2026) or 4.0 overall (on or after Jan. 21, 2026);
CAEL: Minimum overall score of 60;
Duolingo: Minimum overall score of 115.
