Academic Requirements

The Academic Requirements for the Construction Engineering Technology program at Niagara College Canada are as follows:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent including the following required course(s):

English – any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent
Mathematics – any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent

Recommended Courses and/or Skills: These courses and skills may help you succeed academically in this program, but they are not required for admission.

Construction Technology – Grade 12 (C)
Information and Communications Technology – Grade 11 (O)
Physics – Grade 11 (U) or Grade 12 (C) or (U)
Technological Design – Grade 11 (M) or Grade 12 (M)

Selection and Ranking: Applications are evaluated based on the published Academic Requirements. When the applicant provides proof of meeting the requirements, an offer of admission can be issued, provided space is available in the program.

Program Requirements:

Laptop Lease

Personally dedicated laptop computers are an integral part of our computer-integrated curriculum. All students are required to lease a high-end laptop computer from the college.
By leasing the laptop computer, the student is provided with continuous access to state-of-the-art application software packages that could not be made available through traditional computer laboratories or through student-owned computers.
The laptop configurations will include the MS Windows operating system and networking software for connection to the college network system. Application software provided by the college includes Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical and MCL II Robot-Programming, Revit, Civil3D, MathCAD, and WINEST. Several other application programs will be provided by the college as required throughout the program.
Students will be required to purchase some additional software.

Transportation

Students are responsible for their own transportation in order to complete program requirements which may not be readily accessible by public transportation.
Program requirements could include co-ops, placements, volunteer requirements, practical labs, field projects, assignments, clinicals, or any other off-campus visits required as part of the program’s curriculum.

All costs associated with program requirements are the responsibility of the student.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

If English is your second language, Niagara College will accept the following language proficiency scores for the Construction Engineering Technology program, which is an Advanced Diploma at the undergraduate level:

Cambridge English Exams (B2 First/FCE, C1 Advanced/CAE or C2 Proficiency/CPE)
- Minimum score: 169 – No skill under 162.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) including Indicator Test
- Minimum score: 6.0 – No individual band under 5.5.
Internet-based (IBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- Minimum score: iBT: 80, with a minimum of 20 in Writing and Speaking.
Pearson Test of English (PTE)
- Minimum score: 58+, with no individual skill below 53.
Duolingo English Language Test
- Minimum score: 105+, with no individual subscore below 95.
Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL)
- Minimum score: 60 – No individual band under 50.
Completion of Niagara College’s English for Academic Preparation (EAP) Level 5 with 70% and no individual grade under 50%.
