Program Overview

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program at George Brown College is designed to equip students with essential skills for providing personal care to the elderly, chronically ill, and individuals with accessibility challenges. This program is offered as a two-semester full-time course, with classes held at the state-of-the-art Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences at the Waterfront Campus. Students will engage in both theoretical learning and practical experiences, preparing them for a rewarding career in various healthcare settings.

Program Structure

The Personal Support Worker program spans a duration of 2 semesters and is available for full-time study. Classes are scheduled from Monday to Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Students will participate in unpaid, faculty-supervised clinical practicums across various settings in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The program includes:

  • Hands-on clinical placements in institutional and community settings.
  • Interprofessional simulation experiences to enhance teamwork skills.
  • Flexible shift hours that may vary between day and evening, starting as early as 6:30 a.m.

Students will learn to assist clients with personal and household needs, ensuring their comfort and safety. The program also emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive environment for clients, focusing on their physical, social, and emotional well-being.
