Academic Requirements

The Academic Requirements for the Massage Therapy program at Centennial College are as follows:

Academic Requirements:

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or mature student status (19 years or older).
• Grade 12 English (C or U), or equivalent (minimum grade required).
• Grade 11 Biology or Grade 12 (C or U), or equivalent (minimum grade required).
• Grade 11 or Grade 12 (C, M, or U) One additional Science (Physics, Chemistry, or Exercise Science), or equivalent (minimum grade required).

Field Placement Requirements:

After admission, but prior to attending each field placement, students are required to:

• Obtain a clear police check with vulnerable sector screening. Vulnerable Sector Screenings must be issued within six months of each placement start date. Any previous criminal record must be pardoned.
• Successfully complete and annually renew a recognized course in CPR (Health Care Provider level).
• Successfully complete a recognized course in standard first aid.
• Attend mask fit testing that is provided by Centennial College (shaving of a portion of the face may be required to meet safety standards).
• Obtain a pre-clearance health form completed by a physician or nurse practitioner stating that the student meets the health requirements of legislated acts, ministry guidelines, and agency policies.

All of the above requirements must be in effect for the duration of each placement, clinic, and outreach.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

All course work at Centennial College is taught in English, and success in our programs requires a high level of English language proficiency including communication, listening, comprehension, reading, and writing skills. As such, all applicants to Centennial College must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language proficiency to be admitted to their program of choice.

In order to meet the language proficiency requirement, applicants can demonstrate English proficiency through:

1. Previous education,
2. Recognized English upgrading, or
3. Recognized English proficiency tests or assessments.

Unless otherwise stated on a program’s webpage, English proficiency can be demonstrated by:

• Successfully completing two or more consecutive full years at a recognized secondary or post-secondary education institution in a school where English is the primary language of instruction and communication.
• Successfully completing a grade 12 college or university stream English course from a recognized Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) granting institution, or equivalent.

There are some diplomas and advanced diplomas that require a higher level of English (COMM 170/171).
