Program Overview

The Computer Information Technology (CIT) Diploma at BCIT is a comprehensive two-year full-time program designed to prepare students for a variety of rewarding careers in the IT sector. Academic Requirements

For the Computer Information Technology (CIT) Diploma program, the following Academic Requirements must be met:

International Applicants:

International applicants must hold a valid BCIT study permit well before the program start date.
Students enrolled in this program must complete the mandatory work component to qualify for graduation. A co-op work permit is required prior to starting the work component.
This program is available to international applicants.

Competitive Entry: Admission is competitive and will be offered to the most qualified applicants. The competitive calculation formula takes the average of the applicant’s secondary or post-secondary English and math scores.

Prerequisite Courses:

English Language Proficiency: Category 2 – English Studies 12 (67%) or equivalent.
Math: One of the following:
- Pre-Calculus 12 (67%) or
- Foundations of Math 12 (73%) or
- Other acceptable BC and Yukon courses.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

BCIT English Competency Assessment:
- COMM 0015 – English Competency Assessment and COMM 0033 – English Speaking and Listening Assessment - 70%
COMM 1009 – Technical Writing: Definitions, Instructions and Process Descriptions - 67%
COMM 1106 – Introduction to Business and Technical Communication (With Language Development Component) - 67%
BCIT Professional English Language Development (PELD):
- COMM 0030 – Speaking and Listening Skills for EAL Students 2 and COMM 0005 – Technical Communication Skills for EAL Students 4 - 70%
BCIT Technical Academic English (TAE) 5 - 60%
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test - 70 overall band score with no component below 60
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Overall score 6.5 with no band less than 5.5
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Overall score 60 with no skill score less than 60
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) - Overall score 86 with no section score less than 20
