Academic Requirements

The Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics at BCIT has specific academic requirements that applicants must meet to be considered for admission. Here are the key requirements:

Post-secondary education: Applicants must hold a four-year bachelor's degree in any field.
Statistics: One of the following or equivalent is required:
- 3.0 credits of post-secondary statistics, or
- OPMT 1130 - Business Statistics, or
- OPMT 1197 - Statistics for Business and Industry, or
- MATH 1060 - Statistics for Data Analysis, or
- MATH 1350 - Statistics for Information Technology.
*It is recommended that applicants have satisfied the statistics requirement within the last five years.
MS Excel: One of the following or equivalent Excel proficiency is required:
- 3.0 credits of MS Excel, or
- BSYS 2050 - Business Data Analytics, or
- BSYS 2051 - Introduction to Business Data Analytics with MS Excel-MS 365 for Windows, or
- COMP 2364 - Microsoft Excel.
*Applicants should be able to design and use an Excel workbook, and utilize functionalities such as PivotTables, PowerPivot, and the Analysis ToolPak Add-In.
Business Management: One of the following or equivalent management experience is required:
- 3.0 credits of post-secondary business management, or
- BUSA 1005 - Introduction to Business, or
- BUSA 2005 - Principles of Management, or
- BUSA 7250 - Management Skills and Applications.
International Applicants: This program is available to international applicants. A valid BCIT study permit is required prior to starting the program. Students must complete the mandatory work component to qualify for graduation, and a co-op work permit is required for this component.
Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

- COMM 0015 – English Competency Assessment and COMM 0033 – English Speaking and Listening Assessment - 70%
BCIT Professional English Language Development (PELD):
- COMM 0030 – Speaking and Listening Skills for EAL Students 2 and COMM 0005 – Technical Communication Skills for EAL Students 4 - 70%
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test - 70 overall band score with no component below 60
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Overall score 6.5, No band less than 5.5
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Overall score 60, No skill score less than 60
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) - Overall score 86, No section score less than 20
