Program Overview

The Honours Specialization in Art History and Museum Studies is designed for students who are passionate about the arts and wish to explore the intricate relationship between art and its historical context. This program offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing students for various roles in the art and museum sectors. Program Structure

The Honours Specialization in Art History and Museum Studies consists of a total of 9.0 courses. The program is structured as follows:

  • Required Courses:
    • 2.0 courses in Art History at the 2600-level
    • 0.5 course from AH 2600F/G or Studio Art 2600F/G
    • 1.5 courses from MCS 2610F/G, MCS 2620F/G, MCS 3610F/G, MCS 3620A/B/Y, or MCS 3660A/B/Y
    • 1.0 course at the 3600-level in AH or MCS
    • 0.5 course from MCS 3686F/G, MCS 3689E, MCS 4684A/B/Y, or AH 4682A/B
    • 1.5 courses in AH or MCS at the 4600-level
    • 2.0 courses in AH or MCS at the 2600-level or above

Students are encouraged to take at least 1.0 internships to gain practical experience, especially if they aim to work in the museum sector. Additionally, those considering graduate studies in Art History or related fields are strongly advised to study a language other than English during their undergraduate years.
