Program Overview
The Health Care Assistant program at Vancouver Community College (VCC) is designed for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in people’s lives through compassionate care. This program prepares students to support older adults and individuals with disabilities in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home support environments.
Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on labs, and clinical placements, students will gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide safe, respectful, and person-centered care. This program aligns with the B.C. Provincial curriculum and is recognized by health authorities across the province.
Program length: 7 months full-time
Program Structure
The 7-month full-time program blends theory with practice to prepare students for the realities of working in health care environments.
- You will learn to:
- Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding
- Support the physical, emotional, and social needs of clients
- Work effectively with families and health care teams
- Practice infection control and workplace safety
- Communicate professionally and compassionately
