Academic Requirements

To apply for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Nursing program at Algonquin Woodroffe Campus, applicants must meet the following Academic Requirements:

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
International students must provide proof of their previous education, including transcripts from their secondary school.
For Vietnamese students, the following conditions apply:
- Must have received or be in the process of receiving the Senior High School Certificate - Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Trung Học Phổ Thông.
- Must have a minimum average of 7.5/10 and have passed five subjects, including the prerequisites, in the senior year.
Prerequisite courses for the Nursing program include:
- Biology
- Mathematics
- English
- Any other specific courses as required by the program.

To be eligible for the BScN program, international applicants must:

Complete Secondary School: Have completed secondary school or an equivalent program.
Meet Program Prerequisites: Fulfill the specific course prerequisites required for the nursing program.
Achieve Minimum Average: Attain the minimum average required for the program. Generally, a minimum average of 75% is required, but requirements may be higher for some programs.
English Language Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the following:
TOEFL (iBT): Minimum score of 88 with no individual test below 21.
IELTS Academic: Overall score of 6.5 with no band lower than 6.0.
PTE Academic: Minimum score of 60.
CAEL: Overall score of 70 with no part below 60.
Cambridge English Exam (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency): Minimum score of 176 with no individual test below 169.
Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 120 with no band below 115.
Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB): Level 8 for all areas (reading, writing, speaking, listening).

Language Requirements

If you’re applying for an English-language program and have not completed at least three years of full-time study in an institution where English is the only language of instruction (aside from in language courses) in a country where English is an official language, you must submit your official score in one of the following language tests. The official results must be sent directly to us online from the test centre.

In order to be considered for a program offered in English at the University of Ottawa, you must demonstrate that you are sufficiently proficient in the language to follow a postsecondary academic program. Please note that citizenship is not considered when evaluating English proficiency. To show that your English proficiency is at the academic level required for university studies, provide proof of either:

Postsecondary studies in English; or
Last three years of high school taken in English (Grades 10, 11 or 12)

Remember: Language requirements are not based on citizenship. They are based on your country of study.

CAEL: Overall score of 60 with a score of 60 in reading, speaking, and listening performance sections.
