The Trades Foundation Certificate - Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic program at TRU is designed to equip students with essential skills for entry-level positions in the refrigeration field. This program focuses on the installation, repair, and servicing of residential, commercial, and industrial cooling and heating systems. Students will gain hands-on experience with various tools and techniques, including welding and brazing, while also learning about refrigeration theory and electrical systems. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion, which prepares them for further apprenticeship opportunities in the industry.

Program structure

The Trades Foundation Certificate - Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic program has a duration of 25 weeks. The program structure includes:

  • In-school technical training for level 1 of apprenticeship.
  • Hands-on training in a large, open shop featuring new refrigeration training equipment.
  • Job shadowing opportunities to enhance networking with industry professionals.
  • Gas theory and practical training that sets this program apart from standard refrigeration foundation programs.

Students will also complete 425 work-based hours towards their apprenticeship, providing valuable real-world experience. The program is designed to prepare students for a successful career in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry.
