Program overview
The Trades Foundation Certificate - Power Engineering (Fourth Class) program at TRU equips students with the essential knowledge and skills to earn the 4th Class Power Engineering Certification through Technical Safety BC. This certification allows graduates to maintain and operate various heating and power plants, refrigeration systems, and auxiliary equipment. Students will gain hands-on experience in a comprehensive training facility, preparing them for a rewarding career in diverse commercial and industrial settings.
Program structure
The Trades Foundation Certificate - Power Engineering (Fourth Class) program spans a total of 34 weeks, running from the first week of September to the second week of May. Classes are held Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The program structure includes:
- Hands-on training in TRU’s power lab, featuring two steam boilers capable of producing over 10,000 lbs of steam per hour.
- Practical experience in operating the TRU power lab and small demonstration labs.
- Field tours of various plants in and around Kamloops to provide insights into different work environments.
