Trades Foundation Certificate - Electrician

Academic Requirements

The Trades Foundation Certificate in Electrician program at Thompson Rivers University has specific academic requirements that prospective students must meet to be eligible for admission.

To apply for this program, students must fulfill the following educational prerequisites:

• High school graduation (or equivalent) or mature student status
• English 11 with a minimum grade of C (or equivalent)
• Math 11 with a minimum grade of C (any Math 11 or equivalent)

Additionally, students are required to supply their own approved safety glasses and boots for the program.

As a reminder, the program is designed to prepare students for employment in the electrical or related trades, covering essential skills such as:

• Care and use of hand tools and electrical meters
• Installation and maintenance of electrical equipment
• Electrical theory and calculations
• Understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code

Students will engage in extensive practical exercises to develop job readiness skills, including motor control, cable tray, conduit, and residential wiring.

  • EAP Level 5 (2 EAP courses and 2 academic courses): 80+

  • Direct entry into academic programs: 125+ with no sub-score less than 115
  • EAP Level 5 (2 EAP courses and 2 academic courses): 115+ with no sub-score less than 100
  • EAP Level 4 (4 EAP courses and 1 academic course): 100+ with no sub-score less than 90
  • EAP Level 3: 90+

  • Direct entry into academic programs: 62
  • EAP Level 5 (2 EAP courses and 2 academic courses): 58
  • EAP Level 4 (4 EAP courses and 1 academic course): 54
