Academic Requirements

For the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, the Academic Requirements for high school students are as follows:

Minimum Overall Average: Students must achieve an overall average of 70% in Grade 12.
Subject Requirements: No grade below 65% is allowed in each of the required subjects.
Competitive Admission: Admission to limited enrolment programs is competitive; meeting the minimum average does not guarantee admission.
Early Admission: Students currently in Grade 12 applying for early admission must have the program requirements completed in Grade 11 and be registered in the program prerequisites in Grade 12 to be eligible for an early offer. Otherwise, offers will be made after receipt of the final first term Grade 12 transcript.

For international students, the following requirements apply:

Transcripts: Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

At St. Francis Xavier University, proof of English language proficiency is required for applicants whose first language is not English. This requirement applies regardless of the applicant's country of origin, citizenship status, or language of instruction. The accepted English language proficiency tests and their minimum score requirements are as follows:

IELTS: 6.5 overall and no lower than 6.0 in each band (Accepting IELTS One Skill Retake)
TOEFL: 90 iBT and no lower than 20 in each band. MyBest Scores accepted.
MET: 55
CAEL: 70 overall and no lower than 60 in each band
C1 Advanced: 180 overall and no lower than 170 in each band
C2 Proficiency: 180 overall and no lower than 170 in each band
Duolingo: 115 with no integrated subscore lower than 100
Pearson Test of English – Academic: 60 overall with no score below 50
Oxford ELLT Digital: 7 overall and no lower than 6 in each band
Oxford ELLT Global: 7 overall and no lower than 6 in each band

Students may be exempt from providing proof of English language proficiency if they meet certain criteria, such as having studied for the last two years in a high school or university where English was the medium of instruction, or if they have successfully completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma with English Language A.

If an applicant's test scores fall below the minimum requirement but they meet other admission criteria, they may be offered admission into the English for Academic Purposes program with conditional admission into a bachelor’s degree, provided they successfully complete the EAP program.
