Program Overview

Sheridan’s Practical Nursing program equips students with essential skills to thrive in the expanding nursing field. This four-semester diploma program is approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), allowing graduates to apply for the Regulatory Exam-Practical Nurse (REx-PN). Upon passing the exam, students will receive a license to practice as a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, enabling students to assist clients with various health needs, including nutrition, medication, and hygiene, while also promoting health and well-being.

Program Structure

The Practical Nursing program at Sheridan is designed to be completed in two years or can be fast-tracked to 16 months for those starting in January or May. The program structure includes:

  • Four semesters of intensive study.
  • Clinical placements starting from the first semester, providing real-world experience in various healthcare settings.
  • Hands-on training in a state-of-the-art Nursing Lab, simulating real hospital environments.
  • Options for back-to-back semesters for accelerated completion.

Students will engage in clinical placements in long-term care facilities and hospitals, with a significant 450-hour placement in the final semester. This structure ensures that students are well-prepared for their future careers in nursing.
