Program Overview

Join Canada's fourth largest group of healthcare professionals by enrolling in our fast-paced, two-year, full-time Medical Laboratory Technology program. This program is structured to provide comprehensive training in medical laboratory science, preparing you to contribute effectively to patient care through diagnostics, treatment, and prevention of disease. You will learn to apply scientific, technical, and medical principles in conducting and assessing laboratory tests within healthcare environments, focusing on clinical pathology, hematology, histology, and serological testing.

Upon completion, you will be eligible to work as a medical laboratory technologist in various settings, including hospital laboratories and specialized research laboratories. This program not only equips you with the necessary skills but also prepares you for the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification exam, ensuring you are ready to enter the health technology field.

Program Structure

The Medical Laboratory Technology program spans a two-year period, with a blend of classroom instruction and practical experience. The program structure includes:

  • Year 1: Focus on foundational knowledge through classroom instruction and applied simulated laboratory training.
  • Year 2: In-depth clinical practicum at partner sites, providing real-world experience across various medical laboratory disciplines.
  • Completion of competency-based practice exams to prepare for the CSMLS certification exam.

This program is delivered in a blended format, combining in-person classes at the main campus with online learning. Students will engage in practical experiences that cover key areas such as microbiology, chemistry, hematology, transfusion medicine, and histotechnology. The program is designed to ensure that graduates achieve clinical competence as defined by the CSMLS.
