Academic Requirements

The Academic Requirements for the Advanced College Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLBT) at Georgian College are as follows:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status.
Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U).
Grade 12 English (C or U).
Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U).
Grade 12 Chemistry (C or U).

Graduates from the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLBA) program at Georgian College can apply to the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLBT) program with advanced standing. A minimum grade point average of 65% is recommended.

Academic Requirements may also be met by completing the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees certificate, or equivalent courses from the Academic Upgrading programs offered by Colleges across Ontario.

For international students, it is essential to ensure that all academic credentials are evaluated and recognized. Students are encouraged to contact LOA Portal's advisors for any clarification and support regarding the application process.

Additionally, students must complete a criminal reference check and vulnerable sector check prior to clinical placements. This check should be obtained no more than three months before placement, as earlier checks may not be considered current. It is the student's responsibility to provide the completed document prior to the start of the placement.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

As this is a highly competitive program, applicants will be assessed and ranked based on academic grades. The overall minimum GPA is determined annually. Students are advised to apply as soon as possible to secure their place in the program.

Language Requirements

At Georgian College, the language of instruction is English. Therefore, all applicants whose first language is not English, or who come from countries where English is not an official language, must provide proof of English language proficiency.

Applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria to satisfy Georgian’s language proficiency requirements:

Must have completed three full years of study at the secondary school (high school) level in English in a country where English is a primary language.
Must have completed one full year of study in an accredited postsecondary program in English in a country where English is a primary language.
Must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or Canadian provincial equivalent) and English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C) issued by a public or Catholic school board.
Provide proof of graduation from one of the authorized Georgian College partner school pathway programs.
Must have completed three years of study at a secondary private school in Ontario and received an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C).
