Master Of Arts - Global Leadership

Academic Requirements 

To be considered for the Master of Arts in Global Leadership at Royal Roads University, international applicants must meet the following criteria:

Academic Qualifications:

• Possess a four-year (or equivalent) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Achieve a minimum GPA of B (3.00/4.33).

Leadership Experience:

Have a minimum of three years of general leadership experience, which may include:

• Formal organizational leadership roles involving direct supervision of staff or performance-oriented work with individuals, groups, or teams.
• Leadership roles in volunteer organizations.
• Roles requiring consultation, negotiation, or management of diverse interest groups in complex environments.
• Positions where you lead others toward shared goals and outcomes.
• Roles involving influence, organization, and coordination of groups of people.
• Experiences overcoming challenging life situations that involved navigating complex systems and resulted in positive community change beyond the individual.

Cross-Cultural Experience:

Demonstrate significant cross-cultural experience gained through travel or work.

Additional Requirements:

• Submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
• Provide a detailed resume highlighting leadership experiences.
• Write a personal statement illustrating adaptability in diverse human situations and multicultural contexts, showcasing an understanding of values, perspectives, and methods.

If you have been away from academic writing for more than 10 years, you may be required to take the “Academic Writing and Critical Thinking” course offered through Professional & Continuing Studies at Royal Roads University and obtain a minimum B+ (77%) prior to commencing the program.

Transcript Evaluation:

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES (World Education Services) in some cases.

Flexible Admission:

Applicants who do not meet the standard Academic Requirements may be considered for flexible admission and assessed as follows:

• At least 10 years of professional experience, with five of those years in leadership roles.
• Demonstrate significant cross-cultural experience gained through travel or work.
• Flexible admission applicants will normally be required to take the “Academic Writing and Critical Thinking” course and obtain a minimum B+ (77%) prior to commencing the program.

Note: For Vietnamese and other Asian students, specific requirements are not detailed separately. However, all international applicants must meet the criteria outlined above.

English Language Requirements

International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following standardized tests:

• IELTS Academic:
  • Overall score: 6.5
  • Minimum scores: Writing – 6.5, Speaking – 6.5, Listening – 6.0, Reading – 6.0
• TOEFL iBT:
  • Overall score: 88
  • Minimum scores: Writing – 24, Listening – 20, Reading – 20, Speaking – 20
• PTE Academic:
  • Overall score: 60
  • Minimum scores: Writing – 60, Speaking – 60, Listening – 58, Reading – 58
• Duolingo English Test (DET):
  • Overall score: 115
  • Minimum scores: Literacy – 110, Comprehension – 110, Conversation – 110, Production – 115

Test results are considered valid for two years from the date of the exam. Results are considered official when sent directly from the testing organization.
