Academic Requirements for International Students

To apply for the Master of Arts in Leadership – Executive Leadership (Blended) program at Royal Roads University, international applicants must meet the following criteria:

Standard Admission:

• Completion of a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Minimum GPA of B+ (3.33/4.33).
• Normally, a minimum of five years of leadership experience.

Flexible Admission:

• Applicants who do not meet the standard Academic Requirements will be considered for flexible admission and assessed as follows:
• At least 10 years of professional experience, with five of those years in leadership roles.
• Flexible admission applicants will normally be required to complete the “Academic Writing and Critical Thinking” course offered through Continuing Studies at Royal Roads University and obtain a minimum B+ (77%) prior to commencing the program. This course must end a minimum of five weeks prior to your program start date.

Additional Recommendations:

Applicants who meet the degree requirement but have been away from academic writing for more than 10 years will normally be required to complete the “Academic Writing and Critical Thinking” course and obtain a minimum B+ (77%) prior to commencing the program.

For Vietnamese and Asian Students:

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

Applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following standardized tests:

• IELTS-Academic:
  • Overall score: 6.5
  • Minimum scores: Writing – 6.5, Speaking – 6.5, Listening – 6.0, Reading – 6.0
• TOEFL iBT:
  • Overall score: 88
  • Minimum scores: Writing – 24, Listening – 20, Reading – 20, Speaking – 20
• PTE Academic:
  • Overall score: 60
  • Minimum scores: Writing – 60, Speaking – 60, Listening – 58, Reading – 58
• Duolingo English Test:
  • Overall score: 115
  • Minimum scores: Literacy – 110, Comprehension – 110, Conversation – 110, Production – 115

Alternatively, applicants may fulfill the English language requirement by completing an international pathway program through Royal Roads University's Global Learning and Language Centre.
