Academic Requirements

The Master of Arts in Leadership with a focus on Executive Leadership has specific academic requirements that prospective students must meet to be considered for admission.

Standard admission

• Four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a minimum GPA of B+ (3.33/4.33).
• Normally a minimum of five years of leadership experience.

• Applicants who meet the degree requirement, but not the GPA, or have been away from academic writing for more than 10 years, will normally be required to take Academic Writing and Critical Thinking, with a minimum passing grade, prior to commencing the program.

Language Requirements

English is the primary language of instruction and communication at Royal Roads University. All students are required to meet our English language requirements.

You need to demonstrate a minimum level of English proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing when you apply.

There are three ways to demonstrate your English language proficiency:

1. Holding a recognized credential from an English-speaking country
2. Submitting an official English language proficiency test score report
3. Completing a pathway program with our language school partners

Demonstrate your English competency by submitting an English language proficiency test score report from the following organizations:

• International English Language Testing System (IELTS-A): RRU accepts IELTS Academic taken at a test centre or online and IELTS Academic One Skill Retake.
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL-iBT): RRU accepts TOEFL-iBT, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, and TOEFL MyBest Scores.
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE-A)
• Duolingo English Test (DET)

The minimum test score requirements for our graduate programs are as follows:

• IELTS-Academic: 6.5 overall with a minimum 6.5 in writing and speaking, and 6.0 in listening and reading
• TOEFL-iBT (1-120 scale): 88 overall with a minimum 24 in writing, and 20 in listening, reading, and speaking
• PTE-A: 60 overall with a minimum 60 in writing and speaking, and 58 in listening and reading
• DET: 120 overall with a minimum of 110 for literacy, comprehension, and conversation; and 115 for production
