Program overview

Learn a range of technical skills you can use across several sectors! In this program, you'll analyze, design, develop, test, and integrate software into complex systems. With growing market demand, software engineering is one of Canada's newest engineering disciplines; however, there are few software engineering programs in Canada. At Ontario Tech University, our Software Engineering program focuses on the design of computer software and exposes students to software design for embedded systems, enterprise and mobile systems, distributed systems, real-time control systems, multimedia, and man-machine interfaces.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Software Engineering program is designed to be completed in four or five years, depending on the chosen path. The program is offered on a full-time basis and includes a common foundation year for all engineering students, allowing them to explore various engineering disciplines before specializing. Key features of the program structure include:

  • Experiential learning opportunities through co-op and internship placements.
  • Direct-entry co-op option available for students applying through the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC).
  • Access to modern facilities and innovative labs, including the Energy Systems and Nuclear Science Research Centre and the Software and Informatics Research Center.

Students can also choose to specialize in areas such as the Internet of Things or Railway Engineering, enhancing their career readiness in specific fields.
