Program Overview

The Forest Technology diploma program at NAIT is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to manage Alberta's forests responsibly and sustainably. This program emphasizes hands-on learning through a combination of field activities, class lectures, and data analysis. Students who are passionate about the environment, enjoy outdoor activities, and possess a strong work ethic will find this program to be an excellent fit. The curriculum prepares graduates to contribute effectively to forest management on behalf of Alberta's residents.

Program Structure

The Forest Technology diploma program is a 2-year program delivered over 4 semesters. The structure of the program includes:

  • Fall semesters that begin in August run for 17 weeks.
  • Winter semesters beginning in January run for 15 weeks.
  • In-person delivery mode, with classes scheduled on weekdays during the daytime.
  • Field training is a significant component, with the first 5 weeks of Year 1 spent at NAIT’s Kidney Lake camp.
  • Co-op options available for students after completing level 1 courses, allowing for practical experience in the industry.

Students will engage in various field labs throughout the program, focusing on real-world activities associated with forest management.
