Program Overview
The Fitness and Health Promotion program at Niagara College is designed for individuals who are passionate about leading a healthy and active lifestyle. This program aims to equip students with the skills necessary to motivate others to embrace fitness and wellness. Through a combination of classroom learning, hands-on experiences, and field placements, students will develop the ability to counsel, motivate, and educate others on various aspects of a healthy lifestyle. Graduates will be prepared to challenge industry certifications that are essential for assessing, prescribing, and evaluating exercise programs for both individuals and groups.
Program Structure
The Fitness and Health Promotion program is a 2-year diploma program offered at the Welland campus. The program structure includes:
- Two years of comprehensive education and training.
- 150 hours of practical work experience through two field placement opportunities.
- Experiential learning opportunities that involve implementing health and wellness initiatives for community partners, Niagara College staff, and students.
- Pathways to further education through articulation agreements with other institutions.
This program is also eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), allowing graduates to gain valuable Canadian work experience after completing their studies.
