Academic Requirements

To apply for the Computer Systems Technician – Network and Cloud Technologies program at Niagara College, applicants must meet the following Academic Requirements:

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, including the following required courses:
  • English – any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent
  • Mathematics – any Grade 11 (U) or (M) or Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent

Recommended Courses and/or Skills: While not required for admission, the following may help you succeed academically in this program:

• General knowledge of computers
• Competence in the use of the Windows operating system
• Competence in the use of word processing, presentation, and other application software

Applications are evaluated based on the published Academic Requirements. When the applicant provides proof of meeting the requirements, an offer of admission can be issued, provided space is available in the program.

Program Requirements:

• Transportation: Students are responsible for their own transportation in order to complete program requirements which may not be readily accessible by public transportation.
• Program requirements could include co-ops, placements, volunteer requirements, practical labs, field projects, assignments, clinicals, or any other off-campus visits required as part of the program’s curriculum.

Computer Requirements: Students must ensure they have a Microsoft Windows-based desktop or laptop that meets or exceeds the following general requirements:

• A desktop or laptop running on an updated Microsoft Windows operating system (Windows 11 recommended).
• Minimum 256GB SSD storage and 8 GB memory (note that 16 GB memory is strongly recommended).
• An integrated or peripheral video camera, microphone, and speaker system.
• Reliable internet connectivity with Broadband capabilities. A minimum download speed of 10 – 50 Mbps is recommended.

Language Requirements

If English is your second language, Niagara College will accept the following language proficiency scores for the Computer Systems Technician – Network And Cloud Technologies program:

• International English Language Testing System (IELTS):
  • 6.0 – No individual band under 5.5.
• Internet-based (IBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
  • iBT: 80 Minimum: 20 Writing, 20 Speaking
• Pearson Test of English (PTE):
  • 58+, with no individual skill below 53
• Duolingo English Language Test:
  • 105+, with no individual subscore below 95
• Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL):
  • 60 – No individual band under 50.
• Niagara College’s English for Academic Preparation program (EAP):
  • Completion of English for Academic Preparation (EAP) Level 5 with 70% and no individual grade under 50%.

Please note that meeting or exceeding the minimum score requirements does not guarantee admission to Niagara College, and minimum score requirements are subject to change based on program demand.
