Renewable Energies Technician

Academic Requirements

To apply for the Renewable Energies Technician program at Niagara College, applicants must meet the following Academic Requirements:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, including the following required courses:

• English – any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent
• Mathematics – any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent

Recommended Courses and/or Skills: While not mandatory, the following courses and skills may enhance your academic success in this program:

• Communications Technology – Grade 11 (M) or Grade 12 (M)
• Computer Engineering – Grade 11 (M) or Grade 12 (M)
• Construction Technology – Grade 11 (C) or Grade 12 (C)
• Physics – Grade 11 (U) or Grade 12 (C) or (U)
• Technological Design – Grade 11 (M) or Grade 12 (M)

Applications are evaluated based on the published Academic Requirements. When the applicant provides proof of meeting the requirements, an offer of admission can be issued, provided space is available in the program.

Program Requirements:

Transportation

• Students are responsible for their own transportation in order to complete program requirements which may not be readily accessible by public transportation.
• Program requirements could include co-ops, placements, volunteer requirements, practical labs, field projects, assignments, clinicals, or any other off-campus visits required as part of the program’s curriculum.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

If English is your second language, Niagara College will accept the following language proficiency scores for the Renewable Energies Technician Diploma program:

• Cambridge English Exams (B2 First/FCE, C1 Advanced/CAE or C2 Proficiency/CPE):
  • Minimum score: 169 – No skill under 162.
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS):
  • Minimum score: 6.0 – No individual band under 5.5.
• Internet-based (IBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
  • Minimum score: iBT: 80, with a minimum of 20 in Writing and Speaking.
• Pearson Test of English (PTE):
  • Minimum score: 58+, with no individual skill below 53.
• Duolingo English Language Test:
  • Minimum score: 105+, with no individual subscore below 95.
• Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL):
  • Minimum score: 60 – No individual band under 50.
• Niagara College’s English for Academic Preparation program (EAP):
  • Completion of EAP Level 5 with 70% and no individual grade under 50%.

Please note that meeting or exceeding the minimum score requirements does not guarantee admission to Niagara College, and minimum score requirements are subject to change based on program demand.
