Academic Requirements

Domestic Applicants: BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent) or 19 years of age or older.

International Applicants: BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent).

For international students, it is essential to note that the admission process may involve additional steps. Students are encouraged to reach out to LOA Portal's advisors for any clarification and support regarding the application process.

Additional requirements for all applicants include:

Interview with program faculty member

Admission is dependent on the successful completion of an audition and interview. Students must demonstrate sufficient talent indicating they have the potential to become a professional in the theatre arts.

Auditions are held in late April each year. For those located within the Lower Mainland, auditions are held in person. Online auditions are available for candidates located outside of the Lower Mainland.

Audition fees are required.

Applicants must indicate a high degree of commitment to pursuing a professional career in theatre, film, TV, and related arts.

Admission to the program does not guarantee registration into required courses. Students admitted to this program may need to take one or more additional English courses to meet the prerequisite requirements of the English courses required in this program.

As theatre arts students are requested to put in long and often irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, having an outside job is extremely difficult.

Senior students in the Theatre Production Option are sometimes given the opportunity to gain additional experience by working with professional theatres in Vancouver or working on a film/TV project.

Preference may be given to applicants who:

Are at least 19 years of age (younger applicants are still considered)
Have two years of post-secondary education and/or work experience, not necessarily related to theatre arts

Given the highly unique composition of the Diploma in Theatre Arts at Studio 58 (Production), it is highly unlikely students will receive direct transfer credit for application to THEA courses.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

English is the language of instruction at Langara College. All applicants are required to be proficient in listening, reading, speaking, and writing in English at a post-secondary level.

For the College Diploma - Theatre Arts at Studio 58 - Theatre Production program, the following English Language Requirements are accepted:

IELTS Academic: 6.5 (No Band Lower Than 6.0)
Duolingo English Test: 110
TOEFL (IBT): Overall: 88 (Writing: 20, Reading: 20, Listening: 20, Speaking: 20)
CAEL: Overall: 70 (No Band Lower Than 60)
Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic): 56 (No Individual Skill Score Less Than 55)
Langara English Test (LET): 3

Applicants unable to meet the English Language Requirements must satisfy one of the following English Proficiency requirements:
