Program Overview

The Master of Public Health program at Lakehead University is a pioneering initiative, established in 2002 as the first of its kind in Canada. This program is designed for individuals currently engaged in the public health sector, aiming to enhance their knowledge and skills. The curriculum emphasizes core competencies essential for public health professionals in Canada, addressing contemporary issues in public health science and service. Students will gain practical experience through various opportunities that underpin the fundamental disciplines of public health.

Program Structure

The Master of Public Health program offers a flexible approach to education, allowing students to choose between different modes of study:

  • Flexible full-time or full-time on-campus options available.
  • Students can complete the program through Distance Education.

This program is structured to build on the existing knowledge of public health professionals, focusing on:

  • Advanced public health-related education.
  • Critical analysis skills.
  • Understanding health-related decision-making at various levels.
  • Research comprehension.
  • Knowledge exchange and dissemination strategies.

Additionally, students have the option to specialize in areas such as Epidemiology, Gerontology, Indigenous and Northern Health, and Social-Ecological Systems, Sustainability and Health. Note that the Nurse Practitioner electives are suspended for the 2024/25 academic year.
