Academic Requirements

Thank you for your interest in Lakehead University's Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. To ensure a smooth application process, please take note of the following Academic Requirements:

• Applicants must be graduates of a recognized university, college, or institute.
• A four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent is required, with at least second class standing (B) based on the last 20 half courses or equivalent.
• For applicants from countries that follow a British-patterned grading system, a minimum grade of B, or Second Class, Upper Division, is required.
• Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
• In addition to the general Academic Requirements, the following program-specific requirements apply:
  • A four-year degree or a three-year degree plus five additional full-course equivalents (10 half-courses at the second year level or higher; a minimum of six courses must be at the third or fourth year level).
  • GMAT (or GMAT Focus Edition) with a recommended minimum score of 500, or a GRE General Exam with a recommended minimum score of 300.
  • Statement of Academic Intent of 750-1000 words outlining academic and work history, goals, and strengths and weaknesses.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
• Preference will be given to applicants with more than two years of general work experience.
• Graduates of the Lakehead University Faculty of Business Administration with an excellent academic record may be considered for a waiver of the GMAT/GRE requirement.

The application deadline is February 1. Late applications will be considered for admission, but may not be eligible for funding. Meeting the above minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program(s).

Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate they can cope with the language demands of an English language university. Lakehead University accepts the following as proof of English language proficiency:

• Successful completion of one of the below language tests with the required minimum scores
• Successful completion of Lakehead University’s Academic English Program
• Successful completion of one of our approved Pathway Partner’s ESL programs
• Successful completion of Senior Level English courses

To satisfy Lakehead University's English language proficiency requirements, applicants can complete one of the following recognized language tests with the required minimum scores:

• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) or CAEL CE (Computer Edition) or CAEL Online - Minimum Score: 60
• Cambridge Academic English (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency) - Minimum Score: 176 (no individual score less than 169)
• Duolingo English Test - Minimum Score: 110
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Minimum Score: 6.5 (no individual score less than 6.0)
• Michigan English Test (MET) - Minimum Score: 85
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Minimum Score: 58 (no component score less than 50)
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Minimum Score for Internet Based Test (iBT): 80 (no component score less than 19)
