Program Overview

Humber’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) diploma program is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge to work effectively with children from birth to 12 years and their families. The program emphasizes practice-ready competencies that employers seek in ECE graduates. Students will engage in innovative learning experiences, including simulations and hands-on activities, within state-of-the-art facilities such as the Carol Reid Early Childhood Education Lab and the Humber Child Development Centre. The curriculum focuses on various aspects of child development, inclusive teaching methods, and the importance of community engagement, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to support children and families in diverse environments.

Program Structure

The Early Childhood Education diploma program spans 4 semesters and offers flexible start dates in January, May, and September. Students can choose from various delivery options, including online and in-person classes. The program structure includes:

  • Field experiences integrated throughout the program, requiring approximately 500-600 hours over three semesters.
  • Fast-track option for January starters, allowing completion in four consecutive semesters.
  • Approximately 20 months for May starters, with a summer break between the third and fourth semesters.
  • Two academic years for September starters, including a summer break between the second and third semesters.

This comprehensive structure ensures that students gain a wide range of experiences and networks within the community, preparing them for successful careers in early childhood education.

  • Home Child Care Provider: Operate a home-based child care service, caring for children in a familiar environment.
