Program Overview

Humber’s Building Construction Technician diploma program is a key part of the Carpentry-Construction group, which includes two other stackable programs: the Carpentry and Renovation Techniques certificate and the Construction Engineering Technology advanced diploma. This program is designed to introduce students to the carpentry trade while providing practical experience with trade regulations and best practices. Students will gain knowledge in worksite health and safety practices, review building plans, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations, codes, and ethical practices. The curriculum also emphasizes sustainability practices, enabling students to produce project sketches and documents, assist in estimations, and safely operate tools, preparing them for all stages of building construction.

Program Structure

The Building Construction Technician program is structured over a period of 4 semesters. This program offers an optional co-operative education placement, allowing students to apply their skills in a real-world work environment. The co-op placement typically occurs between Semesters 2 and 3, providing students with valuable practical experience. However, spaces in the co-op option are limited, and students will receive information about the application process during Semester 1. The program is available in both in-person and online formats, catering to various learning preferences.
