Academic Requirements

For the Recreation Therapy - Accelerated program at Confederation College, the following Academic Requirements apply:

For Domestic Students:

Graduates of college or university programs in human services may apply to complete a diploma in the Recreation Therapy Program in two semesters (September to May).
Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a C average. A transcript is required.

For International Students:

A four-year degree from an accredited university or college in a healthcare-related field such as Nursing, Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, or Occupational Therapy (1st class) or a Bachelor's of Education is required.
- Original transcripts as well as a notarized, translated copy must be provided where applicable.
- No more than six backlogs/failures are allowed.

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

All students must possess strong English writing, comprehension, and speaking skills to be successful in their studies, in any workplace components of their program, and in their careers.

Applicants are required to demonstrate proof of English proficiency through completing and submitting the recent (within two years of the start of the program) results of one of the following English proficiency tests:

IELTS Academic: 6.0 (no band lower than 5.5)
TOEFL iBT: 80 (no band less than 20)
PTE-Academic: 54 (no communicative skill lower than 50)
Duolingo: 105 (no band lower than 95)
CAEL: 60 (no band lower than 60)

For the College Diploma - Recreation Therapy - Accelerated program, the minimum English proficiency requirements are:

Academic IELTS: 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0)
TOEFL iBT: 88 (no band less than 22)
PTE-A: 60 (no communicative skill lower than 54)
Duolingo: 120 (no band lower than 105)
CAEL: 70 (no band lower than 70)
