Academic Requirements

To apply for the Graduate Certificate in Communicative Disorders Assistant, applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

An Ontario College Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Degree with a focus or concentration on communicative disorders, linguistics, cognitive sciences, psychology, health sciences, social services, and/or human social services curriculum.
Applicants who do not meet the credential requirement must submit a record of volunteer and/or work experience (resume) in a clinical setting with a speech-language pathologist, audiologist, and/or communicative disorders assistant.
*Final acceptance is based on a review of post-secondary background and relevant documentation.

For international students, particularly those from Vietnam and other Asian countries, the following requirements apply:

Canadian citizens and permanent residents with transcripts from outside Canada require a course-by-course credential evaluation. This can be requested at a reduced fee through the college or through an approved provider such as ICAS or WES.
Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Additionally, students must fulfill the following prerequisite requirements for the program:

Mandatory work-integrated learning (WIL) document requirements must be completed prior to field/clinical WIL experiences. Successful completion of WIL is required for program completion.
Students must present a complete immunization record, including MMR, Tdap, varicella, COVID-19, and hepatitis B. Seasonal flu vaccination is required during flu season (October – March).
Evidence of current TB testing is required.
Standard First Aid and CPR – BLS level must be completed in Canada.
An annual Police Check for Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) must be completed in Canada.

Language Requirements

IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0
TOEFL: 88 (Effective January 2024, no individual skill less than 22)
