The Double Degree program at Brandon University combines a Bachelor of Music with a Bachelor of Education, providing students with a unique opportunity to develop both their musical talents and teaching skills. This concurrent program is designed for those who aspire to become music educators, allowing them to cultivate their musical abilities while gaining a comprehensive understanding of educational theories and practices. Students will engage in a variety of learning experiences that prepare them for a successful career in music education.

Program structure

The Double Degree program is structured to be completed in a five-year sequence of courses. This program includes:

  • A common first year where all students follow the same curriculum.
  • Specialized streams in the second year, allowing students to focus on elementary, choral, or instrumental music education.
  • Opportunities to transition into a four-year Specialist degree in Music Education, contingent upon meeting academic qualifications.

Throughout the program, students will engage in various practical experiences that enhance their learning and teaching capabilities. The program is designed to ensure that graduates are well-prepared to earn a Manitoba Class-Five Permanent Teacher’s Certificate upon completion.
