Program Overview

The Commerce Qualification Year is a preparatory year offered by York University for students aiming to pursue the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) program at the Schulich School of Business or the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. This program is designed to strengthen academic foundations in subjects like mathematics, economics, and writing to ensure students are well-prepared for the rigors of a commerce degree. It’s an excellent pathway for students who show potential but may need additional coursework before fully entering the BCom program.

Program Structure

This is a 1-year (2-term) full-time preparatory program that includes:

  • Required courses in mathematics and English
  • Introductory-level courses in economics or business
  • Academic advising to support transition into the full BCom program
  • After successful completion and meeting GPA requirements, students may transition directly into the full BCom
