Academic Requirements

To apply for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Wilfrid Laurier University, applicants must meet the following academic requirements:

• A four-year or three-year bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university or college.
• A minimum of a B standing or a second-class honours in the final year of the undergraduate program (the equivalent of 10 courses). Additional courses completed after the bachelor's degree requirements will be calculated into the final year GPA. The re-calculated GPA must be at least a B to be considered for admission.
• Applicants must demonstrate strong quantitative skills, supported by one or more of the following:
  • At least 2 years of work experience in a role requiring quantitative knowledge and application.
  • Successful completion (minimum B+) of a demanding quantitative course at a Canadian university or college within the last five years, which will be evaluated by the admissions committee.
  • For Laurier students, this includes BU205: Introduction to Applied Statistics or BU255: Managerial Statistics.
• GMAT Focus (score of 525 or higher) or GRE equivalent.
• CFA Level I pass.
• Applicants to the full-time and part-time MBA program options must have at least two years of full-time work experience or the equivalent of six co-op work terms.
• Applicants to the full-time MBA with co-op program must have fewer than two years of combined full-time work and prior co-op experience.
• A statement of intent, resume, and three reference forms are required.

For international students, it is important to note that:

• Applicants whose language of instruction was other than English during their undergraduate degree must supply evidence of proficiency in English prior to admission. Acceptable tests include:
  • TOEFL: A minimum score of 100 (with minimum skills scores of 21 in each of the four skills sets).
  • IELTS or its equivalent: A minimum score of seven (7).

Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Language Requirements

To apply for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, you must demonstrate proficiency in English. The following English-language tests and their minimum score requirements are accepted:

• Cambridge Assessment English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 176 overall.
• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): 70 overall; 60 in each band.
• Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 120.
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic or Online score of 6.5 or higher, with a minimum of 6.0 in each band.
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): 59 overall or higher.
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Internet-based testing (TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Home Edition): an overall score of 83 or higher with a minimum score of 20 in each component.

Accepted English Preparation Programs include:

• Academic Transition Pathway (ATP) Program: Successful completion of ATP I, ATP II, or ATP III.
• Conestoga College’s English for Academic Studies: Level 4 with a satisfactory final score of 70%.
• Kaplan International English School: Completion of Advanced Level (C1).
• Renison University College’s English for Academic Success (EFAS): Level (400) with a satisfactory final score of 75%.
• University of Guelph’s English Language Certificate Program: Advanced level 9 and 10 with a satisfactory final score of 75%.
