Academic Requirements 

To be eligible for the Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (Degree Completion) program at Royal Roads University, international applicants must meet the following criteria:

Standard Admission:

• Completion of a diploma or a minimum of 60 college or university credits (including at least 24 second-year level credits) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Minimum overall GPA of B- (2.67/4.33).
• At least 420 hours of hospitality/tourism-related work experience, volunteer work, guest service-related experience, or cooperative education.

Flexible Admission:

• Applicants who meet the 60-credit requirement but do not have the minimum GPA (B-) typically need 1 year of work experience in the hospitality or tourism industry in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Applicants with 30-59 credits usually require 2 to 3 years of work experience in the hospitality or tourism industry in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Applicants with less than 30 credits generally need 5 years of work experience in the hospitality or tourism industry in a leadership or supervisory role.

Additional Recommendations:

• Strong academic writing skills are essential; an English composition course focusing on academic writing and critical thinking is strongly recommended.
• Familiarity with APA style citation is used in this program.
• A basic knowledge of accounting principles is also strongly recommended

English Language Requirements

International applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate proficiency through one of the following tests:

• IELTS Academic: Overall score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.5 in writing and speaking, and 6.0 in listening and reading.
• TOEFL iBT: Overall score of 88, with a minimum of 24 in writing, and 20 in listening, reading, and speaking.
• PTE Academic: Overall score of 60, with a minimum of 60 in writing and speaking, and 58 in listening and reading.
• Duolingo English Test (DET): Overall score of 115, with a minimum of 110 for literacy, comprehension, and conversation; and 115 for production.
