Program Overview
Explore new and non-traditional energy sources in preparation for a career in the growing alternative energies sector. NAIT's Alternative Energy Technology diploma program equips students with both theoretical and practical skills necessary to design, integrate, and maintain systems that utilize major alternative energy sources such as solar, geothermal, wind, biofuels, hydro, fuel cells, and co-generation. This program also enhances understanding of the industry through studies in project management, economics, business, and energy management.
Program Structure
The Alternative Energy Technology diploma program is structured to be completed in 2 years (Full-time). The program is divided into four semesters, each focusing on different aspects of alternative energy technologies:
- Semester 1: Introduction to electrical, thermal, and chemical energy, along with foundational workplace skills and software applications for energy system analysis and design.
- Semester 2: Hands-on experience with clean energy technologies including solar, wind, hydro, battery energy storage systems, bioenergy, and green building technologies.
- Semester 3: Integration of multiple clean energy technologies to optimize low-carbon solutions, along with project management skills for a capstone project.
- Semester 4: Application of knowledge in a real-world capstone project, including energy computer modeling and life cycle assessment.
This program is delivered in-person, allowing students to engage directly with instructors and peers, enhancing the learning experience.
