Aviation is an interdisciplinary degree program that combines professional flight training with undergraduate studies in Arts, Commerce, or Science. This unique program at Mount Allison University is one of the few in Canada that allows students to earn an undergraduate degree while incorporating both flight and ground school training. The Aviation program is offered through a partnership with MFC Training, a leading flight training establishment in North America, ensuring students receive high-quality instruction and experience in the field.

Program structure

The Aviation program at Mount Allison University is structured to provide a comprehensive education that integrates flight training with academic studies. The program length is typically four years, during which students must complete their first year of undergraduate studies before beginning flight training. Key aspects of the program structure include:

  • Completion of introductory courses in Arts, Commerce, or Science during the first year.
  • Flight training begins after achieving second-year standing, which requires earning a minimum of 24 credits.
  • Students must obtain a Transport Canada Category 1 medical certificate and pass a formal English language proficiency test.
  • Ongoing coursework includes three courses per term on campus alongside ground school training.
  • Students will complete over 200 hours of flying and receive extensive ground training.

Upon graduation, students will earn a bachelor's degree along with a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), a multi-engine class rating, and a Group 1 instrument rating. Additionally, students may qualify to write the Airline Transport Pilot Licence exam.
