Program overview

The Motive Power Fundamentals program is an introductory course designed to equip students with essential diagnostic, repair, and maintenance skills for motive power systems. This program focuses on hands-on experiential training, allowing students to develop their abilities in a shop environment. With a curriculum modeled after the Automotive Service Technician (310S) apprenticeship program, students will gain the necessary skills to pursue entry-level employment in the automotive industry. Graduates of this program will also be exempt from Level 1 of the in-school training portion of the Automotive Service Technician (310S) Apprenticeship Program, provided they achieve a minimum grade of 60% in all automotive reportable subjects.

Program structure

The Motive Power Fundamentals program spans a duration of 1 academic year (8 months). This full-time program is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of automotive systems through a variety of learning methods. Key features of the program include:
