Academic Requirements

To apply for the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts program at Lakehead University, students must meet the following Academic Requirements:

• Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
• A minimum of 6 Grade 12U or M courses, including program-specific prerequisite courses.
• A minimum overall final average of 70%.

For international students, the following requirements apply:

• Successful graduation from an academic secondary school program or equivalent, which is generally the same academic preparation required for university entrance in their home country.
• Program-specific prerequisite courses must be completed.
• Equivalent of a minimum 70% overall final average (Canadian).

It is important to note that “Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.”

• English 12 or English 12 African Heritage for Nova Scotia High School Students.
• English 621A for PEI High School Students.
• 2 English (603 or 604) for Quebec (CEGEP) Students.
• English (ENG4U) or equivalent for Quebec (Private) Students.
• English Language Arts 30 A or English Language Arts 30 B for Saskatchewan High School Students.

Language Requirements

Lakehead University requires applicants whose first language is not English to demonstrate their proficiency in the English language. This can be achieved through various means, including years of study in an English-speaking institution or by providing proof of English language proficiency through recognized tests. Below are the accepted English language proficiency tests along with their respective minimum scores:

• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) or CAEL CE (Computer Edition) or CAEL Online - Minimum Score: 60
• Cambridge Academic English (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency) - Minimum Score: 176 (no individual score less than 169)
• Duolingo English Test - Minimum Score: 110
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Minimum Score: 6.5 (no individual score less than 6.0)
• Michigan English Test (MET) - Minimum Score: 85
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Minimum Score: 58 (no component score less than 50)
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Minimum Score for Internet Based Test (iBT): 80 (no component score less than 19)
