Academic Requirements

To apply for the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program at Georgian College, prospective students should be aware of the following Academic Requirements:

• The program is designed for students aiming to improve their English language skills for success in higher education, work, and life in Canada.
• Students must complete the EAP placement test to determine the appropriate level of study.
• Transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.
• To graduate from the EAP program, students must achieve a passing weighted average of 60 percent across all levels.
• Students must attain a minimum of 50 percent or a letter grade of P (pass) or S (satisfactory) in each course in each session.
• For those completing level 8 only, the passing mark is 70 percent for entry into diploma programs.

International students, including those from Vietnam and other Asian countries, are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. It is advisable to contact LOA Portal's advisors for any clarification and support regarding the application process.

Additionally, students should be aware of the prerequisite courses and the importance of completing levels 7 and 8 to receive the General Arts and Science – English for Academic Purposes Ontario college certificate.

Language Requirements

At Georgian College, all applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. This is essential for admission into the English For Academic Purposes (ESLG Or EAPC) program. To meet the language proficiency requirements, applicants must fulfill one of the following criteria:

• Completed three full years of study at the secondary school level in English in a country where English is a primary language.
• Completed one full year of study in an accredited postsecondary program in English in a country where English is a primary language.
• Possess an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or Canadian provincial equivalent) with an English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C) issued by a public or Catholic school board.
• Provide proof of graduation from one of the authorized Georgian College partner school pathway programs.
• Completed three years of study at a secondary private school in Ontario and received an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C).

In addition to the above criteria, applicants can also submit scores from the following accepted English language tests:

• Duolingo Language Test: 110
• TOEFL internet-based test (IBT): 79
• TOEFL paper-based test: 550
• IELTS Academic only: 6.0
• YELT: 1-5
• TOEIC (Public Test): 800
• Graduate of Level 8 of Georgian’s GAAS – English for Academic Purposes: 60% in certificate or completion of level 8 with 70% or higher
• Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL)/CAEL Online: 60
• Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE): 58
• Cambridge English: C1 Advanced (CAE): 170
