Program overview

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program at Acadia University is designed to enhance your academic English skills, preparing you for university studies either at Acadia or elsewhere in Canada. This program is ideal for students who have conditional acceptance to an Acadia University degree program but do not yet meet the language requirements. It also caters to English language learners seeking to improve their academic language skills through an intensive curriculum. With small class sizes and experienced instructors, students receive personalized attention in a supportive learning environment.

Program structure

The EAP program consists of a structured curriculum that spans multiple terms, with each term offering a comprehensive learning experience. The program includes:

  • Program Length: Each EAP term consists of 23 hours of study per week.
  • Small class sizes, typically ranging from 10 to 15 students, ensuring individual attention.
  • Intensive instruction in key areas such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Concentrated study in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and communication skills.
  • A Bridging program in the final level, combining EAP study with a 3 credit-hour academic course.

Students will also participate in a Culture Class, which includes engaging activities that allow them to practice English in real-world settings. The program is designed to facilitate a smooth transition into full-time academic studies.
