Program overview

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program at Acadia University is designed to enhance your academic English skills, preparing you for university studies either at Acadia or elsewhere in Canada. This program is ideal for students who have conditional acceptance to an Acadia University degree program but do not yet meet the language requirements. It also caters to English language learners seeking to improve their academic language skills through an intensive curriculum. With small class sizes and experienced instructors, students receive personalized attention in a supportive learning environment.

Program structure

The EAP program consists of a structured curriculum that spans multiple terms, with each term offering a comprehensive learning experience. The program includes:

  • Program Length: Each EAP term consists of 23 hours of study per week.
  • Small class sizes, typically ranging from 10 to 15 students, ensuring individual attention.
  • Intensive instruction in key areas such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Concentrated study in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and technical English.
  • Bridging program in the final level, combining EAP study with an academic credit course.
  • Culture Class activities to enhance real-world English usage and cultural immersion.
  • Online option available through the Virtual-EAP (V-EAP) program.

Students will also take a placement test to determine their EAP level, ensuring they are placed in the appropriate class based on their proficiency.

Featured Experiences

The EAP program offers several unique features that enhance the learning experience:

  • Culture Class: Engage in activities that immerse you in Canadian culture, such as visits to local attractions and community events.
  • Bridging Program: This final level combines EAP study with a credit course, allowing students to transition smoothly into their academic programs.
  • Online Learning: The Virtual-EAP program allows students to start their studies from home, providing flexibility and convenience.
