Discover how to prepare before studying abroad from language worries and homesickness to culture shock and the secrets of building confidence for a meaningful journey.

1. Feeling Afraid Is Completely Normal
Studying abroad is never an easy decision. Behind all the excitement of a new beginning often comes a wave of worries: being away from family, facing language barriers and cultural differences, or simply fearing you won’t be able to keep up with life in a foreign country. Many students lose sleep wondering, Am I really ready? The truth is, feeling anxious before such a life-changing step is entirely natural. It doesn’t mean you’re weak, it simply shows that you care deeply about your choice. The real question isn’t about fear itself but how you prepare to rise above it. The more carefully you prepare, the more confident you’ll become. And that confidence will turn what feels unfamiliar into something unforgettable. Before you begin this new chapter, make sure you’re mentally ready. It’s okay to feel scared or uncertain, those are honest human emotions. Just don’t let them hold you back from moving forward with your dream.
2. Language Matters, But It’s Not Everything

2.1. Language: A tool, not a burden
These days, being fluent in a foreign language isn’t rare. Some students even achieve an IELTS score of 7.0 at a young age. Yet, many treat language as a heavy burden, believing that without a certain score or certificate, they’ll fail abroad. In truth, English (or any language) is just a tool - a bridge that helps you connect and grow. It supports your success, but it doesn’t define it. Instead of worrying about perfection, focus on building a realistic, effective learning plan that fits you.
2.2. If you already speak well - what’s next?
Keep improving your soft skills, critical thinking, and humility. Language may open a conversation, but your attitude and character will keep it going.
2.3. If you’re still learning - where to start?

Start with the basics of daily communication.

Practice through movies, podcasts, or online communities.

Most importantly - don’t be afraid of mistakes. Practice is the only way to progress.

3. Leaving Family: A Big Fear, But Not That “Scary”
Why does being away from family make many students hesitate? Because family is a familiar anchor. Once you’re thousands of kilometers away - different time zones, different cultures - homesickness can feel like a real emotional weight. But growing up means learning to stand on your own:

Taking responsibility for every decision.

Appreciating family bonds more deeply.

Becoming stronger and more resilient through challenges.

For parents, instead of worrying too much, trust and encourage your child. That belief will be their greatest source of strength.
4. Preparing Mentally and Physically for the Journey
Before I began my own study abroad journey, I spent nearly two months “rehearsing,” not out of fear but because I knew I was stepping into a world where no one would remind me to eat, take me to the doctor, or comfort me when I felt low.Mentally: I imagined the worst-case scenarios - getting lost, not understanding lectures, spending holidays alone. I accepted that I would feel homesick and sometimes want to give up, but that wouldn’t mean weakness.Physically: I had a full health check-up, got basic medication for common illnesses like sore throat and stomach pain, and packed some vitamins. I even learned to cook simple meals - vegetable soup, fried eggs, chicken porridge - so I could take care of myself on busy or tiring days.By the time my departure date arrived, I no longer felt the same anxiety I had when I first received my offer letter. Instead, I felt ready, because with a calm mind and a healthy body, I knew I could face any surprise and turn it into a valuable experience.
5. Everything Will Be Fine
The first days abroad can feel overwhelming. Everything is new: language, food, weather, even the way people smile when greeting. Some days you may feel like an outsider, struggling to catch up. But remember, this feeling is temporary. With time, you’ll find your rhythm. You’ll learn to ask questions when you don’t understand, take care of yourself when you’re sick, and open up to new friends. One day, you’ll realize you’ve changed - chatting easily with strangers at a bus stop, confidently presenting in class, or cooking your hometown dish to share with international friends. The key is not to be too hard on yourself. You don’t have to be perfect from day one. You don’t have to understand everything right away. As long as you keep moving forward, learning something new and growing a little each day, keep that quiet belief: everything will be fine. One day, when you look back, all those worries will become warm, funny, and unforgettable memories to tell. See more:

Do you dare to step out of your comfort zone?

Cost of Studying in Canada 2026

Hitachi Energy will invest C$479 million in a London, Ontario plant for transformer insulation, adding Canadian supply capacity and creating 100+ skilled jobs.

On October 16, 2026, Hitachi Energy announced a CAD 479 million investment to develop a manufacturing facility for electrical insulation materials used in power transformers in London, Ontario. The project is expected to be completed in 2028 and create more than 100 skilled technical jobs. This investment marks more than the addition of a new manufacturing facility in Canada. It also reflects the growing need to strengthen the electrical equipment supply chain as energy demand continues to rise. The expansion of data centres, industrial activity, and electrification is placing greater demands on power infrastructure, highlighting the importance of essential materials and components that support reliable electricity transmission and distribution.
What Will the New Facility Produce?
Spanning approximately 21,000 square metres, the new facility will focus on manufacturing pressboard and laminate insulation materials.
