Advanced College Diploma - Environmental Technology (ENVR) (co-op)

Academic Requirements

The admission requirements for the Advanced College Diploma in Environmental Technology (ENVR) program at Georgian College are as follows:

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status.
• Grade 12 English (C or U).
• Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U).
• Grade 11 or 12 science course (for instance, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) is strongly recommended to support this science-based program.

For international students, particularly those from Vietnam and other Asian countries, it is essential to ensure that your educational qualifications are equivalent to the OSSD. Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older), and home school applicants may also be considered for admission. Eligibility may be met by applicants who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED, and equivalency testing.

Additionally, the program prepares students for various certifications/designations required for environmental careers, including:

• Water and wastewater treatment operator certification – students complete the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MOECP) Entry-Level Drinking Water Operator curriculum and exam.
• Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation – the program prepares students to write the professional practice exam through the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).

Having an automotive driver’s license prior to applying to co-op work term positions, which usually occur during semester two, is strongly recommended. Many employers require a full G license to drive a company vehicle from worksite to worksite and will prefer applicants who have it.

Language Requirements

The language of instruction at Georgian College is English. All applicants for whom English is not their first language must provide proof of language proficiency. To meet Georgian’s language proficiency requirements, applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria:

• Must have completed three full years of study at the secondary school (high school) level in English in a country where English is a primary language.
• Must have completed one full year of study in an accredited postsecondary program in English in a country where English is a primary language.
• Must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or Canadian provincial equivalent) and English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C) issued by a public or Catholic school board.
• Provide proof of graduation from one of the authorized Georgian College partner school pathway programs.
• Must have completed two years of study at a secondary private school in Ontario and received an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C).
