Program Overview

The Early Childhood Education (Consecutive Diploma/Degree) (C118) program is a collaborative offering between George Brown College and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). This unique program allows students to earn both an Ontario College Diploma and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies in just four years. It is designed to prepare graduates for a rewarding career in early childhood education, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to support the holistic development of children from infancy through school age. The program emphasizes practical experience through field placements, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the workforce upon graduation.

Program Structure

The Early Childhood Education program spans a total duration of four years (8 semesters), with classes commencing in September. The program is structured as follows:

  • Years 1 and 2: Students will focus on obtaining their diploma from George Brown College, learning about child development, program planning, and community engagement.
  • Years 3 and 4: Students will transition to TMU to complete their degree, studying policy, advocacy, and engaging in research projects related to early childhood education.

This program also includes field placements in semesters 1 through 4, allowing students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings. The program is designed to alternate between in-class learning and practical experiences, ensuring a comprehensive educational journey.
