Academic Requirements

For international high school applicants, particularly those applying for the Bachelor of Cybersecurity (co-op) program, the following academic requirements must be met:

High school graduation is the normal minimum level of study to be considered for admission to the first year of an undergraduate program at Carleton University. This is your ‘basis of admission’. Academic performance in your previous studies is the main determining factor for admission. We accept credentials from most national systems. Secondary education should normally consist of a minimum of 12 years of study. For some countries, where the secondary system is fewer than 12 years, applicants may be required to have completed one year of university study.

You will need to provide transcripts from your final years of high school along with your graduation diploma or certificate, and any graduation exam results. If an application is made during the final year of study, we will review mid-year or interim marks for an early/conditional offer.

In addition to your overall academic performance, for the Bachelor of Cybersecurity program, you will also need specific required subjects (prerequisites) to be considered for admission. The prerequisite subject for this program is:

IELTS (Academic): Minimum score of 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each band)
Internet Based TOEFL:
- Tests taken before Jan 21, 2026: Minimum score of 86 (with at least 22 in writing and speaking, and 20 in reading and listening)
- Tests taken after Jan 21, 2026: Minimum score of 4.5 (with at least 4.0 in each band)
Duolingo English Test (DET): Minimum score of 120 (with at least 110 in writing, reading, and speaking, and 105 in listening)
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): Minimum score of 70 overall (with at least 60 in each band)
Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Minimum score of 55 (with at least 47 in each Communicative Skill)
Cambridge English Language Test: Minimum score of 176 (with at least 169 in each component)
